Spotlight on Ohio's New Health Foundations
Spotlight on Ohio's New Health Foundations In honor of Funding for Health Month, the Foundation Center-Cleveland has prepared Spotlight on Ohio's New Health Foundations, a report providing vital information on 22 foundations in Ohio formed by mergers, sales, or other transactions involving hospitals and other health organizations. The report includes a mini-directory with facts on the foundations' formation and giving, a list of representative grants, and excerpts from a conversation with foundation staff that afford a personal glimpse into their grantmaking activities. This report will be of interest to Ohio grantmakers, representatives of nonprofits in the health field, policymakers, community leaders, and members of the media, among others.

In Their Own Words: An Interview with Two Ohio Grantmakers

Kaki McGeary is Program Manager of the Anthem Foundation of Ohio, a supporting organization of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. Kaki dedicates sixty percent of her time to Anthem and has been with the Foundation for four years.

Denise San Antonio Zeman has been President and CEO of the Saint Luke’s Foundation of Cleveland, Ohio, since January, 2000. Ms Zeman is a lifelong Clevelander who has been involved in health and human services administration for more than twenty years.

The Grantee’s Perspective

Carl Ellison is Executive Director of Middletown Social Services and Health Center in Middletown, Ohio. Mr. Ellison splits his time between two community health organizations, Middletown Social Services and Health Center and Butler County Community Health Center. Both organizations exist to provide access to affordable medical and oral health care for underserved residents.

Maureen Mizerak is Executive Director of the Conflict Resolution Center (CRC) of the West Shore, Inc. located in Westlake, Ohio. CRC provides mediation services and conflict resolution education and training as alternatives to violence and litigation for families, youths, schools, neighbors, and communities.
