Jovid Foundation

Mini-Grant Program

Purpose:

The Jovid Mini-Grants Program provides up to $1,000 to help current grantees increase organizational capacity and expertise.

Mini-grants can be awarded for such purposes as staff development, board training, relevant conferences, workshops and trainings, membership dues and fees, web site development, etc.

Mini-grants are not available for equipment or capital purchases, salaries, overhead, or direct program support.

Eligibility:

To apply for a mini-grant, the following criteria must be met:

  • Organization must be a current grantee (Current grantees are agencies that have an active grant from Jovid as of the mini-grant application date),
  • Organization's total annual operating budget must be less than $1.25 million,
  • Mini-grant project budget must be no more than $5,000, and
  • A 20 percent cash match of the total expense must be provided. This match may not be met by salaries or in-kind.

Amounts:

An eligible organization may submit up to two applications during a twelve-month period. The most an organization can receive under this program during a twelve-month period is a total of $1,000.

Match:

An organization applying for a mini-grant must provide at least a 20 percent cash match of the total expense. This match may not be met by salaries or in-kind.

For example, suppose a grantee wants to join a local membership organization and the dues are $750. If funded, the organization would be expected to provide 20 percent or $150 of the total dues and the Foundation would make a mini-grant of $600.

Application Procedures:

Mini-grant applications will be accepted on an on-going basis. However, to provide time to adequately consider a mini-grant application, the Foundation requests that there be at least four weeks between the date of the application and the date on which the funds are needed.

To keep the process simple, applications need not be more than one page (two pages maximum) and should concisely describe the

  • purpose for which funds are being sought,
  • anticipated impact on organizational capacity,
  • total cost,
  • source of funds used to provide the organization’s minimum 20 percent cash match,
  • amount requested from the Foundation, and
  • project dates or timeline.

The Foundation will promptly notify the applicant of its decision. To assist applicants, the Foundation’s Executive Director welcomes phone calls before submission of a mini-grant application.

Reports:

The Foundation requires a summary or overview of the results of the mini-grant. This brief report (no more than one page) should describe the impact that the mini-grant had on your organization. This report is to be provided no later than 6 months after the mini-grant award date.

Submission of Mini-Grant Applications:

Mini-Grant applications may be submitted via standard mail, e-mail (jovidfoundation@yahoo.com) or fax (202-686-2621).
